When "Hounds on the Highway" lives up to its name... litterally.
š¾ Teamwork on the Thruway: Behind the Scenes of a Rescue Transport
If there’s one thing that every transport reminds us of, it’s that rescue is truly a team effort. Today’s journey with NYC Second Chance Rescue was no exception — and it took at least eight amazing people to make it all happen.
From the outside, a transport might just look like a van, a few pups, and a couple of friendly faces handing off a dog to its next stop. But behind the scenes, it’s a symphony of communication, coordination, flexibility, and heart.
š The Crew That Made It Happen
Today’s transport came together thanks to the combined efforts of:
McKayla, our amazing transport driver, who puts in the miles with compassion and care.
Adriana, our dedicated transport coordinator, who works tirelessly to line up every detail and keep everyone in sync.
Elisa, a standby transporter for NYC Second Chance Rescue, who was ready to jump in to help ensure everything stayed on track.
Tim and Abby, an incredible foster couple, who opened their hearts and home to this sweet pup and are part of the rescue family.
And of course, Mark and I, representing Hounds on the Highway, helping connect the dots and bring everyone together.
Every one of these roles is vital. When one person steps in, another steps up — and that’s how a single dog’s life can completely change course in a single day.
š ️ Expect the Unexpected
If there’s one universal truth in animal rescue, it’s this: be ready to adapt.
Today, that came in the form of an unexpected flat tire on the transport van. Instead of our original plan, we found ourselves coordinating a pick-up on the New York State Thruway — not exactly the most conventional meeting spot and giving a new meaning to Hounds on the Highway!
But that’s rescue life. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned, and you have to adjust quickly, keep the dog’s safety front and center, and work together to make it happen. And that’s exactly what we did.
š The Road to Rescue
By the time the pup was safely on their way to their loving foster home, we couldn’t help but smile (and maybe laugh a little) at how it all played out. A flat tire, some quick thinking, and a handful of dedicated people — all united by one shared mission: to give this dog a second chance.
Every transport is a reminder that rescue isn’t about perfection — it’s about persistence, partnership, and heart. And while not every day on the road goes smoothly, every mile is worth it when a life is saved.
❤️ Gratitude for the Journey
So here’s to Adriana, Elisa, our amazing fosters, our driver, and every single person who makes rescue possible. You are the beating heart of what we do.
And to anyone reading this who’s ever thought, “I’d love to help, but I don’t know where to start” — trust us, there’s always a way. Whether you drive, foster, coordinate, donate, or simply share a post, you’re part of the rescue chain that keeps these tails wagging.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about getting dogs from point A to point B — it’s about getting them to their forever homes, one mile at a time.
