🐾 One More Ride: The Gentle Giant Heads to the Shore

Just when we thought our rush of transports was complete, the phone buzzed one more time — and how could we say no? Another pup needed a ride, and this time, it wasn’t just any dog. It was a Great Dane — a gentle giant with a heart (and paws) as big as the van!

šŸš— From the City Streets to the Seaside Air

Our journey began in New York City (at 6:30am on a Saturday) where the city was still sound asleep. This sweet Great Dane, Moses, waited patiently, towering over the crate beside him and greeting us with a deep, rumbling “hello.” Despite his size, he climbed in gracefully — ready for his ride to the Jersey Shore and a brand-new chapter.

The trip south was peaceful, filled with the sound of gentle snores from Moses. What I am sure was quite a site to passersby, was when he would stand up in the back seat to adjust himself or turn around... seeing this huge silhouette appear and disappear must have been a site. Between the traffic, tolls, and bridges, our big passenger was calm, kind, and full of gratitude.

🌊 Destination: The Shore

When we arrived down the shore (it's a Jersey thing), the ocean breeze rolled in to welcome him home. He stepped out with that mix of curiosity and confidence unique to Great Danes — his nose lifted high, tail wagging, as if he already knew good things were waiting.

šŸ’› Why We Keep Saying “Yes”

This wasn’t part of the original week’s plan — but then again, rescue rarely goes by plan. Sometimes, the best stories come from saying yes one more time.

That’s what Hounds on the Highway is all about: showing up, even when the schedule is full, the miles are long, and the backseat is already covered in fur. Because every ride means a fresh start, and every start deserves a chance.

šŸ•‍🦺 From City Lights to Shoreline Dreams

So here’s to our gentle giant and to every volunteer who’s ever squeezed in one more trip, one more transport, one more life saved.

From the city skyline to the shoreline — it’s all worth it.

šŸ’› Hounds on the Highway — keeping the wheels turning and the tails wagging, one mile at a time.

Transporting dogs is our passion — and every mile we drive is a promise to
give them a better life. But as the cost of gas, tolls, and supplies continues to rise,
keeping those wheels turning gets a little tougher.

If you’re able, we’d be so grateful for your support to help us keep saving
lives on the road.
