šš¾ Five Transports. Nine Days. Countless Miles of Love.
Some weeks remind us exactly why we do what we do. This past stretch — five transports in just nine days — was one of those weeks. From early mornings to late-night drop-offs, every mile told a story of hope, teamwork, and second chances.
š§ Stop #1: Elmsford, NY ➜ NYC (With a Twist!)
Transports rarely go exactly as planned — and this one was no exception! A flat tire on the van meant we had to pivot fast and meet on the side of the New York State Thruway for pickup. It wasn’t your typical handoff, but in rescue, flexibility is everything. Despite the detour, the pup made it safely to NYC, proving once again that teamwork and quick thinking can get the job done no matter where the road takes us.
š Stop #2: NYC ➜ West Milford, NJ
From the bustle of the city to the quiet woods of West Milford, this trip was all heart. We transported a sweet rescue pup ready to leave behind the chaos of city life for some peace, fresh air, and a brand-new start surrounded by love.
š¾ Stop #3: Red Bank, NJ ➜ Brooklyn, NY
Then came a Jersey-to-Brooklyn run — one of our favorites. There’s something incredibly special about seeing a dog make their way from a small-town foster home to their new beginning in the big city. The tail wags, the sleepy sighs in the backseat, and the happy reunion on arrival make every mile worth it.
š¶ Stop #4: NYC ➜ Westchester
Next, we headed north to Westchester, dropping off a hopeful pup at an adoption event. These moments are pure magic — watching dogs meet potential families, feeling the energy of possibility in the air, and knowing that by day’s end, one of them might finally go home forever.
š Stop #5: Jamaica, Queens ➜ Darien, CT (Leg 1 of 6!)
We wrapped up the whirlwind with the first leg of a six-part journey to Maine! Starting in Jamaica, Queens, we transported a sweet traveler to Darien, Connecticut, where the next volunteer driver took over. These relay-style transports show what rescue is all about — a chain of compassion stretching hundreds of miles, with each link powered by love and teamwork.
❤️ The Road to Rescue Is Never Lonely
In just nine days, we logged hundreds of miles, crossed bridges, and touched four states — but what stands out most aren’t the places. It’s the people:
The coordinators who plan each leg with care.
The fosters who open their homes and hearts.
The adopters waiting at the end of the journey.
And every single volunteer who helps carry a dog closer to forever.
Every bark, every tail wag, and every quiet passenger reminds us why we do this. Five transports, nine days, and five happy dogs now closer to home. That’s what keeps us on the highway.
š From all of us at Hounds on the Highway — thank you for helping us keep the wheels turning and the tails wagging.
