This Thanksgiving, I’m Thankful for Lindy!

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPECIAL POSTING FROM MARK: This season, I’m especially grateful for one incredible girl: Lindy! She’s truly something special, and I can’t help but gush about her.

When her foster parents go out of town, Lindy and I get to share some quality time during transports. She hasn’t had much interest from potential adopters yet, but I’m hoping this story inspires one of our readers to fall in love with her—and maybe even bring her home. If her story warms your heart, perhaps it’s time to consider Lindy (or another furry friend) as your newest family member!

Let me share what makes her so wonderful.

---

The Road Trip Begins

When I arrive for a pick-up, I send a quick, “I’m here” text and head to the passenger side door. Lindy greets me with excitement, wagging and bouncing, and after a happy hello, she’s ready to hop into her ride. She doesn’t exactly launch herself into the car, but she’s always eager to inspect her "Uber." Seeing her pure joy as she climbs in is one of my favorite moments—it’s like she knows an adventure is about to begin!

Lindy is a 55-pound bundle of happiness, and she travels safely with a double leash outside the car and a secure latch inside. Once we’re settled, she insists on riding shotgun. We do a little “musical seats” routine first—front to back and back to front—before she finally picks her spot. Usually, she ends up beside me, ready for pets, and sometimes she even serenades me with her delightful "singing."

On our most recent trip, I left a stuffed UFO toy in the back for her. Needless to say, the poor UFO didn’t survive the journey—but it kept her entertained for a while!

A Stop at Silver Mine Lake

About an hour into the trip, we stopped at Silver Mine Lake in Harriman State Park. I stumbled upon this spot during a previous drive, and it’s become our go-to rest stop. The tiered parking area, picnic spots, and lake access make it a perfect place for a quick circuit: a loop around the parking lot, up to the picnic area, down to the boat launch, and back again.

Lindy loves exploring here, and I always take a moment to snap a panoramic photo from the back bumper. After a tick check and some fresh air, it’s back into the car for the next leg of our journey.

Lunch Break: Montrose Deli

After navigating the twists and turns over Bear Mountain, we reward ourselves with a stop at Montrose Deli. (If you’ve never been, you need to try their Funky Chicken sandwich—it’s life-changing!) For Lindy, it’s turkey and Swiss, plain and simple, and she accepts her treat with perfect manners.

We enjoy our picnic at a busy little table outside, soaking up the sunshine and watching the hustle and bustle of deli life. It’s one of those moments where everything feels right: good food, good company, and a shared joy for life.

The Final Stretch

The last seven minutes to the Rescue Center always feel bittersweet. After a few more pets and licks, we arrive, and I get to spend some time with her in the play paddock before saying goodbye.  That UFO toy from earlier? It’s now a pile of fluff and fabric scattered across the astroturf, a testament to her playful energy. Saying goodbye is never easy, but it’s comforting to know she’s safe and cared for while waiting for her return trip back to foster care.

Lindy is such a special lady, and every journey with her leaves me with a full heart. I already can’t wait for our next adventure together, though what I truly hope is that she finds a forever family to share her joy with.

If her story resonates with you, consider making Lindy a part of your family—or perhaps opening your home to another furry friend in need.

Lindy

American Staffordshire Terrier Mixed Breed

If you’re looking for a snuggly couch potato lady, Lindy is your girl!  Lindy was found at a grooming salon and was at risk of ending up in a high-intake shelter. Thankfully, we were able to pull her to safety and set her up in a wonderful foster home, where she spends her days wrestling with the resident dogs, cuddling up closer to her foster parents, and learning all the basics.

Lindy is 3 years old, 50 pounds, crate trained, house trained, and currently lives with several dogs but needs slow introductions to new canine friends. She is a staffy lover’s dream with her playful spirit, adorable bum wiggles, and affectionate disposition. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who will shower you with love, apply to adopt Lindy today!

All dogs will be altered, microchipped, and receive age-appropriate vaccines prior to adoption. Please note that the listed location for this dog may not be accurate due to technical limitations of this database and we have transportation options available within 6 hours of NYC (so don't let location hold you back)!
