Doubling Down on the Fun

Hold on tight! This is a multi-part transport story

And Then There Were Two!

🐾 March brought us a thrilling challenge: transporting not one, but multiple dogs at once! We mulled it over and decided, "Why not? What's the worst that could happen?" πŸš—πŸ’¨

Our first-time experience turned out to be nothing short of paw-some, thanks to the incredible dogs we had the privilege of transporting. πŸΆπŸ’«

Introducing LeeLoo and Gemma!

🌟 Meet LeeLoo, the enchanting Pittie Mix whose happiness was as contagious as her wagging tail. She couldn't resist snuggling up in Mark's lap during the entire ride to her foster home. πŸΎπŸ’•
πŸ‘‘ And then there's Gemma, the elegant Chow Chow / Shiba Inu mix who exuded regal charm like no other. Gemma redefined car travel comfort with her unmatched serenity and a fluffy cuddliness that's second to none. πŸš—πŸΆ

These two unforgettable pups brought their own special magic to our journey. Gemma's quiet and stoic nature was the perfect compliment to LeeLoo's curiosity and lively spirit. They were a perfect pair to introduce us to the excitement of a duo puppy transport.

Fast forward to mid-July, and we found ourselves embarking on another puppy duo transport that didn't unfold as seamlessly as some of our previous journeys, like the heartwarming tales of LeeLoo and Gemma. This time, we were entrusted with the task of retrieving two dogs from the Rescue Center in Verplanck, NY, and delivering them to an adoption event hosted by the dog-friendly Boris & Horton Cafe in Brooklyn. With a number of double transports under our belts, we felt confident in our ability to navigate this journey safely.

Our travel companions for the day were Suzie Q, a stunning black pittie mix adorned with endearing white dots on her face, and the handsome husky mix, Maverick. As we prepared to load them into the car, Suzie Q took the first seat, positioned behind me at the wheel, with Mark in the middle. 😊 However, as Maverick started to make his way into the car, Suzie Q's demeanor suddenly changed. She growled and barked in protest, clearly distressed by Maverick's presence. Sensing the tension, we swiftly pulled Maverick away from the car to prevent any potential conflicts and decided to regroup. πŸΆπŸ•

In hindsight, it became evident that Suzie Q may have felt cornered, triggering her reaction. The situation was more our fault than hers. Determined to ensure a smoother journey, we brainstormed a solution. Our plan was to tether Maverick into the front passenger seat next to me, creating a physical barrier between the two dogs while in transit. With this arrangement in place, we loaded ourselves back into the car and resumed our journey towards Brooklyn.

However, the trip didn't quite go as planned. Maverick, a substantial canine, found it challenging to sit still, get comfortable, or fit within the confines of the front seat. The result? A flurry of doggy activity—his big husky face was practically in my face, a friendly tongue slid across my cheek, his fluffy tail occasionally obstructed my vision, and he attempted to occupy my lap—all of this while navigating the winding roads of Westchester County, NY. πŸ™ˆπŸΊπŸš—

Around 15 minutes into the ride, we reached a unanimous decision—it simply wasn't working. The situation was not only exceedingly unsafe but also increasingly exasperating. We hastily pulled into a nearby parking lot, belonging to the local fire department, to reassess our strategy. It was there that we decided to swap the pups' positions in the car after attempting to keep them separated in the lot.

The change proved to be a game-changer. Suzie Q peacefully curled up in the passenger seat, and Maverick finally had the space he needed in the back seat to settle down comfortably. It was a night-and-day transformation, and the lesson we learned was crystal clear—always trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right during a transport, speak up and be ready to adapt. 🐢❤️πŸš—
