Road to Rescue: Reflecting on Our Year-to-Date Impact
When Mark and I began searching for an animal rescue organization to volunteer with, we were met with silence—no one responded to our inquiries. That was until we submitted our application to NYC Second Chance Rescue (SCR). Within just two days, we each had a phone "interview" with an SCR team member, and they quickly reached out to our references.
We never imagined that a simple conversation about wanting to give back to the rescue community—largely inspired by our love for and incredible experience adopting Stella (yes, we reached out to her rescue first but never heard back)—would lead us here.
Now, volunteering with SCR has become a rewarding part of our lives. We cherish the quality time we spend together and with the amazing dogs we transport. It’s an experience we wouldn’t trade for anything.
As we reflect on this year’s transports, we’re excited to share some behind-the-scenes statistics and highlights that showcase the impact we’ve made. 🐾❤️

Highlights
- Transport Failing - When we first started this journey, we agreed that while it would be tempting to adopt every single dog we transported, we wouldn’t do that and risk becoming overwhelmed or turning into dog hoarders. However, it seems that agreement didn’t quite extend to our roommates—because they ended up adopting the sweetest little pup, Nico! Now, Nico is thriving and happier than ever in our home, enjoying life with his three new brothers and sisters.
- Becoming BFFs with Lindy - From being her personal transporter / chauffeur to exploring Hariman State Park as we traverse the route to and from the Rescue Center while her foster family goes on vacation, Lindy and I got to spend some extra quality time with eachother. I have to say, I have no idea why this beautiful angel is still up for adoption. She is so loving, cuddly, and well behaved. She would make the best addition to any family looking for a loving and special dog. While I will be sad to see her get adopted, I cannot wait for it to happen. She deserves it.
- Increased Attendance - With the increase of adoption events behing held with Second Chance Rescue, you run the risk of lower attendance at each of the events. However, that was not the case here. The attendance at each of the events that were held (Adoption Events, MicroChip Events, Broadway Barks - in the rain) the turn out was always impressive. We want to thank all of you followers for joining us on this adventure and keep coming back and reading these blog posts. A HUGE thank you to whomever of you has donated some time, supplies, fostered, adotped, or became a transporter this year at SCR or at your local animal rescue - they all need the help and support. Together, we can change the world!
