Driving Miss Doggie

I want you to think back to the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" and picture Jessica Tandy sitting in the back of the her car with Morgan Freeman at the wheel. As you know I (Doug) typically take on the Morgan Freeman role (the chauffeur) for our trips and Mark typically is the Jessica Tandy role being a passenger of leisure lounging in the back seat playing with the puppies we are transporting. Poor Morgan Freeman is dodging crazy drivers, potholes (thanks NY and NJ for the roads), watching for the police and navigating to our destination sometimes white knuckling it the entire way. All the while, Jessica in the back is eating bon bons playing with cute puppies while fanning herself with a palm fronds.

Now, this time Morgan was not feeling up to driving since he was getting over a cold so he tagged in Jessica to drive this time. They swapped roles. Picture the 40 mile ride in drizzly weather (side note: any time Mark or I ever go to Westchester, Rockland or Orange Counties in NY it rains without fail.... every time). Morgan is dozing in and out of a nap in the passenger seat falling victim to the comfy heated seat. We made it! Time to load up and get rolling.

Morgan piles in to the back after the car is all setup (seat covers, towels, seat belt attachments hooked up, backpack of supplies at the ready in case needed) and he is ready for his companion this trip. In comes this beautiful barely 1 year old black beauty named Rizzo.

She is obviously terrified after being in the transport van from down south then shuffled into our car. Shaking aside, she leans against my left side and I put my arm up and around her and she just melts into me. Since she came off the transport without a collar, leash, harness or anything, luckily our Mary Poppins supply bag comes in handy. I thankfully pull out a soft harness that is perfect for her and gently slide it onto her now calming body and hook her up to the seat belt tether to make sure she is safe.

Mark pops his companion into the seat next to him, getting him all hooked up as well. His companion you ask....

Meet Rollo or Taco, depends on who you ask. This little guy has lost his sight but not his zest for life. His nose is in over drive trying to get the lay of the land in the front seat but then settles in for the ride. Everyone is all buckled in and settled so we are off!

Now, remember back a little bit ago when I painted this wonderful picture of Jessica Tandy eating bon bons in the backseat while fanning herself playing with puppies? Yeah, I may have been a little off on my depiction of life in the backseat. That maybe what it looks like to Morgan from the front seat but once you are actually back there..... totally different story. Little miss Rizzo is about 40 pounds of pure muscle and when she wants to go somewhere, she goes. If she wants to stand on you, she will. For an hour. On your thighs. With her pointy feet. With a 40 pound body pressing down on you. You see what I am getting at here? Life in the back seat is not all that I had thought it was, and I missed being chauffeur for my crew.

Well, now that I experienced how the other half lived, I can't wait to be behind the wheel and have Jessica back to being driven!

So my friend Dobby and I have this routine at night. When my dad(s) take us out for night time pee before bed, we know that they are getting ready for bed and to go to sleep. When we come in, we know that if we sit and stare at the treats and not move, that they will feel guilty and give us our bed time treats. Then they want us to wind down and get ready to go to sleep. Well, Dobby and I have other ideas usually though. We want to play. We just went pee and it was cold outside so we need to warm up and for some reason going pee gives us a lot of energy. We like to rough house and burn off the last bit of steam before hunkering down for the evening. Fun dad (Mark) will usually laugh at us and any maybe even do toy cannon for us (this is where he throws a bunch of toys up in the air and makes us run around like crazy to try and get them) while the not so fun dad (Doug) tries to get us to calm down because its bed time. When he does that I get mad sometimes and to get back at him, I will get into bed but in his spot so he can't into bed then. That will teach him to make me stop playing with Dobby.

MEET BRIDGETTE

Meet Bridgette, a beautiful dog searching for her second chance. Months ago, Bridgette was hit by a car. The accident left Bridgette's bone so shattered that it required amputation. Bridgette is now a tripod, meaning she has 3 legs instead of 4. At just 2 years old, Bridgette has her whole life ahead of her. She's 45 pounds of pure love and friendly with dogs, cats, and people. She's a total catch! We're not sure what life looked like for Bridgette before her rescue, but the sights and sounds of the city can be intimidating to her. We would love to see her in a home outside the city. Adopt Bridgette by submitting an application today.

All dogs will be altered, microchipped, and receive age-appropriate vaccines prior to adoption. Please note that the listed location for this dog may not be accurate due to technical limitations of this database and we have transportation options available within 6 hours of NYC (so don't let location hold you back)!
