๐Ÿถ๐ŸพHelping Paws: Dog Aide's Impact in Detroit ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿถ

Alongside my ongoing support for Second Chance Rescue, I'm thrilled to shine some light on a very important animal advocacy group that is doing much needed work in Detroit, Michigan. This organization is called Dog Aide and their mission is "to provide assistance to Detroit dog owners who are experiencing financial hardship and struggling to provide for their pets. Our Community Outreach program was created to provide dog food, daily care items, education on proper pet care, and assistance with free spay/neuter to the Detroit community to help keep pets with their people." Because of Michigans bitter cold temperatures this time of year, one of their biggest community outreach programs is called:

L.O.D.G.E Project (Loving Outdoor Dogs and Giving Education)
Founded Fall 2019

The L.O.D.G.E. Project provides life-saving and life-enhancing supplies to dogs that live outside 24/7/365 days a year. Our program ensures a dog living outside has proper shelter, a lightweight tether, an appropriate collar, and food. Since program inception, we have provided over 700 dog houses to dogs in need.

Education is the major component of this program, and we work diligently with owners to improve the care of their dogs and their living conditions. Our goal is to transition dogs inside the home and to help them become part of the family, however, this process can take time. While this is occurring, we do everything we can to make the dog's lives comfortable, happy and enriched.

During the cold weather months we experience a 500% increase in our call volume for dogs outside in need of help. On average, we use over 500 bales of straw each winter to insulate shelters for dogs living outside.

Take a look at their website and links below to learn a little bit more about another organization built on compassion and animal advocacy and learn how you can help!

So, remember how I was so excited for this snow to arrive. Like, I couldn't wait. I got to play in it and run around and sometimes I even got the Zoomies in the snow. Well, there is one part of the snow that I forgot I didn't like all that much. That's the rock salt that the humans have to use to make it not slippery. It's everywhere. They use so much of it that you cant get around it. Well, at least I cant. Now, dad has tried to put me in this weird foot coverings I think he calls them shoos or something like that. But I don't like them. They make me look funny and the other dogs all laugh at me and I can barely walk in them. I know he tried to help with this stuff but these I hated. The UGG sweatshirt he got me however is something I love. I am in that warm and cozy sweatshirt all the time. Don't tell dad but I even slept in it last night. So, if all the humans can do us pups a favor and don't put so much rock salt down, it hurts and burns our feet. If you have to use it, please use the pet safe ice melt that you can find anywhere. Here is the stuff I used dad's credit card to get for us. Sssshhhh!

MEET GUNNER

Meet Gunner, a charming hound mix hailing from the sunny South. Gunner was one of the "Mississippi 92" dogs rescued from a hoarding case, and he is ready to begin a new, happier chapter in his life. He's a middle-aged fella with a heart as big as the Mississippi River. Gunner gets along best with polite pups who respect his laid-back style, and this good boy has a knack for making hearts skip a beat. Ready to open your heart to this irresistible southern charmer? Gunner is waiting with open paws to steal your heart and be your forever friend

All dogs will be altered, microchipped, and receive age-appropriate vaccines prior to adoption.
